Substitute Teaching

Qualifications

Substitute teachers must have a valid teaching certificate, or substitute certificate.

The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education requires all substitutes to apply for their substitute certificate through the department’s website: dese.mo.gov and obtain a background check through the Missouri State Highway patrol. Background check instructions can be found here.

Orientations

If you are selected to be added to our substitute pool, you will be required to attend an orientation program. Please note: You must have a valid teaching/substitute certificate (obtained by applying through the DESE website) prior to attending the orientation.

Orientation will be held on at the Grain Valley Schools Leadership Center located at 101 NW Sni-A-Bar Parkway, Grain Valley, MO 64029 on the following dates:

CANCELED - Tuesday, January 8th at 9:00am
Reschedule Date: Wednesday, January 15th at 9:00am
CANCELED - Tuesday, January 21st at 9:00am
Reschedule Date: Thursday, January 23rd at 9:00am
Tuesday, February 4th at 9:00am
Wednesday, February 19th at 9:00am
Tuesday, March 4th at 9:00am
