Digital Accessibility Guide

Let's Talk Digital Accessibility

The U.S. Department of Justice issued a new rule under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act. This rule requires digital accessibility standards to be met for state and local government organizations, including Grain Valley Schools. In this ruling, it was determined that public schools must comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) AA level within a certain time frame that is based on census population. With a population of less than 50,000 people, Grain Valley Schools has been assigned a deadline of April 26, 2027.

The Digital Accessibility Guide should serve as a resource for Grain Valley Schools staff to utilize to ensure all digital content meets compliance. Digital Accessibility questions should be directed to Kamron Porter, Director of Communications at Grain Valley Schools.

“The real urgency comes from understanding that today's students are digital natives who expect to engage with learning materials across multiple platforms and devices. When Educational institutions can’t meet students where they are with accessible, well-designed content, they’re not only failing to meet legal standards but also failing to fulfill their educational mission.”
