Dr. Drew Smith has been named principal of Grain Valley High School beginning with the 2023-2024 school year. Dr. Smith is currently in his seventh year as assistant principal at GVHS and previously taught psychology and social studies at the high school. He has 16 years of experience overall as a teacher and administrator.
Dr. Smith earned a bachelor's degree and master’s degree at the University of Missouri-Columbia, a specialist degree from the University of Central Missouri-Warrensburg, and a Doctorate from William Woods University.
This new assignment follows the announcement last month that the current Principal of GVHS, Dr. Jeremy Plowman, is retiring at the end of this school year.
Superintendent Dr. Brad Welle is enthusiastic about Dr. Smith taking the lead next school year. Dr. Welle commented on Dr. Smith‘s transition from assistant to lead principal saying, “Dr. Smith is viewed as an instructional leader committed to the success of students and staff. He has earned trust through integrity and a commitment to excellence. GVHS is in great hands under his leadership.”
