Can you dig it? The Grain Valley Marching Eagles competition season is off to a great start!
In September, the Grain Valley Marching Band and Color Guard kicked off the season as they performed their 70’s inspired show “Groove” at the Kansas City Championships held at Blue Springs South High School. Seventeen school districts, both large and small, from across the greater Kansas City Metro took the field to showcase their skills for the top spot.
The competition was stiff, but the Grain Valley Band was stellar. They were judged on three different categories including: Music, Visual, and General Effect. The Marching Eagles stole the show as they placed first in all three categories and were crowned first place overall.
But the show didn’t stop there. Grain Valley Marching Eagles next stop took them to Blue Springs High School for the Golden Regiment Invitational. The Marching Band once again showed up and took home first in their class, and claimed a third place overall finish after the results revealed a minuscule .1 point difference behind a tied first place finish.
The Marching Eagles will gear up to head to Waukee, Iowa to compete at the Bands of America Iowa Regional on October 4th. Where the Eagles will face off against 29 bands. Following their trip to Iowa, the band will make their way to St. Louis, Missouri on October 17th for the St. Louis Super Regional Championship.
“We will be facing off against over 60 schools in St. Louis,” said Andrew Messerli, "some of the best bands in the country,” added the Director of Bands.
Catch the Marching Eagles perform during halftime of every home football game at Moody Murry Field! The band will also be hosting a community showcase on Thursday, October 23. Stay tuned for more details.
